What is Vitamin B12 used for?

Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. Vitamin B12 also helps prevent a type of anaemia called megaloblastic anaemia that makes people tired and weak.

What happens when my B12 is low?

Weakness and fatigue are common symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency. They occur because your body doesn't have enough vitamin B12 to make red blood cells, which transport oxygen throughout your body. As a result, you are unable to efficiently transport oxygen to your body's cells, making you feel tired and weak.

Is B12 good for my skin?

Vitamin B12 helps to regulate the production of pigment in the skin, helping to prevent dark spots and pigmentation. Cobalamin also assists the body with the metabolism of protein which, in turn, promotes the growth of healthy skin cells and helps to repair damaged skin.

Does B12 thicken hair?

Hair requires a mixture of both vitamins and minerals to grow, and Vitamin B12 is one of the essential vitamins. Its vital role in cell division, red blood cell production, and metabolism explains why a B12 deficiency impacts hair quality. The vitamin is required to produce new hair cells and promote hair growth.

Are Vegans at risk of Vitamin B12 deficiency?

As Vitamin B12 is only found naturally in animal products. Even though some plant-based milks or grains may have been fortified with Vitamin B12, vegan diets are often limited in this vitamin, putting people at risk of deficiency.
